Human Services as an Economic Engine
This series of data visualizations shows how human services drive jobs and stimulate economic benefits through the Illinois economy. Providers of human services throughout generate $4.5 billion a year in spending – economic activity that generates some $597 million in state and local taxes. It is an industry full of small businesses, serving as an important job creator.
Economic Impact by House Districts
Human service programs create tens of millions of dollars of economic impact in individual legislative districts. Human service workers are responsible for more than $40 million in economic impact in nine House districts. Human service grants exceeded $20 million in nine Illinois House of Representatives districts. Ten Illinois House of Representatives districts have human service worker populations exceeding 1,800.
